Collecting The Best Rookie Cards From The 2009 NBA Draft

By Tim Cates

Ok, we know that the 2003 NBA Draft is considered one of the best draft's of all-time. The number one pick that year was LeBron James and he has turned out to be a pretty good player. Of course I'm kidding. LeBron has been a spectacular player!

Along with LeBron, other notable players from that 2003 draft are Dwyane Wade, Carmelo Anthony, Chris Bosh and Chris Kaman. Wade has something that LeBron James doesn't have yet, an NBA
Championship. But LeBron may get a ring this year as his Cavaliers team is a favorite to win it all in 2009-10.

Now let's fast forward to the 2009 NBA Draft. I remember everyone was talking about this kid from the University of Oklahoma, Blake Griffin. He was the cream of the crop on draft day. But that has changed as Griffin got hurt and has been out his entire 2009-10 rookie campaign. Griffin will no doubt be a nice player, it just won't begin until the 2010-11 NBA season.

As the 09-10 NBA season winds down, we have had some other players from that '09 draft step up with impressive seasons in their rookie year. And the player that has lead the way is the Sacramento Kings guard Tyreke Evans. Evans was selected #4 by Sacramento out of Memphis and has been the hottest rookie in the 2009-10 NBA campaign. Tyreke has averaged 20 points a game, with 5 assists. And he can cut to the hole with the best of them. A super player that is only going to get better.

Another big surprise has the Milwaukee Bucks rookie Brandon Jennings. Jennings is averaging 15.5 points per game and is dishing out 5.9 assists. Jennings also has a 55 point game in his back pocket. He accomplished that feat back in November against the Golden State Warriors. Brandon Jennings will get some more exposure too as his team looks to be playing in the 2009 NBA playoffs.

The Golden State Warriors selected Stephen Curry with the #7 pick in the 2009 NBA draft. And Curry has produced! He is averaging 16.5 points per game and is dishing out 5.7 assists. And Curry is a deadly three point shooter. He is perfect for a Don Nelson run offense in Golden State.

The New Orleans Hornets got a steal with their 21st pick in the 2009 NBA draft. They chose Darren Collison out of UCLA. And as it turned out, Collison got plenty of playing time because Chris Paul was injured for most of the season. And Darren Collison has made the most of his time on the court
and has had a very good rookie season. He is averaging 11.9 points per game and 5.5 assists. He has hit some big shots for the Hornets.

This young 2009 rookie class could end up being one of the greatest NBA drafts of all-time. It still has a ways to go to catch up with the 2003 rookie class, but when Blake Griffin gets going and if the players mentioned above keep getting better, look for them to be compared to 2003.

And the rookie cards of Tyreke Evans, Blake Griffin, Brandon Jennings, Darren Collison and Stephen Curry are selling like hot cakes on eBay right now. If you collect sports cards, please fell free to visit the resource links below. I have included links to Tyreke Evans rookie cards, Kevin Durant rookie cards and LeBron James rookie cards. Also rookie cards from baseball and football.
