Talking Glucometer for Diabetics

By Deb Bloom of Gimme One of Each

If you are visually impaired or blind, I found some information on a really nice Glucometer that is perfect for people with this disability. The meter is called the Prodigy and it is a talking Glucometer. The meter tells you when it's on, will guide you through the simple steps to checking your blood sugar with a clear voice and then tells you the results with the same clear voice. The test strips help guide your finger to the target to make it easier to apply the blood to the strip. The lancet device is an Accu-Check Soft-clix using an ultra fine lancet for virtually pain-free testing. The meter is portable and easy to use and it requires no cleaning. It's available in English and Spanish versions.

If you have sore fingers from checking your blood sugars, you can also test in arms, legs or hands. The amount of blood needed is very tiny and the results are available in six seconds. The meter will hold 450 blood sugar results and you can also download your results to your computer.

The meter retails for $39.99 but I found a website that offers a free meter. Just fill in your info to see if you qualify for the freebie.
