Favorite Colors Fill a Child’s Room
By Jessica Stockton
Most children have a favorite color. As a person gets older, you tend to have different favorite colors depending on what the color is for. For example, your favorite clothing color may be totally different than your favorite car color. But when you are a child, you have the blissful luxury of simply having a favorite color. So when you are getting ready to redecorate your child’s room, you can use their favorite color for inspiration, and they will simply love their space. Blue, Green and Yellow While some favorite colors work well in a child’s bedroom, others do not. For example, it your child loves blue, yellow or green, then you are home free. All of these colors are neutral enough to use in a child’s room without having to worry about them outgrowing the color too soon. You can also find beautiful paint colors in these hues for the walls, and it is easy to find suitable fabrics for bedding and curtains as well. These colors can be used generously throughout the room with overwhelming it. Crazy Colors Then you have that child who loves bright red, hot pink, raging orange or pitch black. These colors are a little more challenging to work into the room design. Probably none of these colors will make a good wall color selection, and in some ways you are lucky. For these colors, the perfect walls are a nice neutral color. Then you can load up the room with accessories, bedding, curtains and even furniture in their favorite shocking color, and make the effect of the color as strong as you want. Then as they tire of the color, you can simply switch out the bedding and their room is ready to move on to their next favorite color. Great Accents If your child has their heart set on painting their walls a bright color, a good compromise is to paint a single, focal wall the bright color, or maybe even paint the bottom half of the walls the bright color with a neutral color on top. You can add a chair rail around the room to neatly divide the colors, and finish the walls. If your child loves black, remember that chalkboard paint is a great option, and might make a really fun, focal wall. Now they can turn their black wall into a graffiti wall and enjoy hours of fun your child can have drawing on it. Paintless Color Even if you prefer to keep the walls in your child’s room in a more neutral color palette, you can still add as much or as little of their favorite color throughout the room as you wish. You can start by covering their bed in their favorite color, then you can add curtains, and floor pillows. You may even want to add an area rug to add even more of their favorite color to their room. You can also paint a piece of their furniture, like a desk chair to bring more color to the room. By keeping the color only in the accessories, it will make your job easier when you find yourself decorating around their next favorite color.
