Let's Talk About Constipation

By Deb Bloom of Gimme One of Each

OK, this is a touch, private subject, but it's probably something we ALL suffer with on ocassion. Constipation. If you have less than 3 bowel movements a week, the stool is hard and painful to go, chances are you have constipation. It isn't pleasant, in fact it's downright uncomfortable. Some people think they have to move their bowels every day. That isn't true. There is no right and wrong with peoples bowel functions. Each person is different, and can depend on the foods you eat, the activity you do and many other things.

You can change your diet by eating more fiber such as vegetables, fresh fruit and limit foods that have little or no fiber such as ice cream, cheese, meat and snacks.

Here are some things you can do to decrease constipation.

Eats lots of fruits and vegetables, fresh is best. Here are some recommendations such as apples, peaches, raspberries, tangerines, acorn squash, raw broccoli, brussel sprouts, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, spinach, zucchini, black-eyed peas, kidney beans, lima beans, whole grain cereal, whole grain cereals and whole wheat bread.
Drink plenty of water and other liquids. Liquids help make the stool soft and easy to pass on, Try to not drink a lot of caffeine.
Regular exercise can help constipation, or the development of it. Try walking 20-30 minutes every day.
Allow yourself plenty of time for a bowel movement. Rushing around before work in the morning isn't going to help your bowel problem.
Use laxatives if your doctor recommends them. Laxatives come in many forms such as liquid, pills, powder and more, but they all work about the same. You can also use Miralax, This works very well.

So don't let yourself become constipated. Nip it in the 'butt' and get on with life.
